St. Dominic de Guzman, the Patron Saint of this College, is a model for teachers and students to emulate, for his was a life dedicated to prayer, study and service. Born in an aristocratic family at Caleruega, Spain, around 1170-72. The saying about St. Dominic that ‘he either spoke with God or about God’ exemplifies the holiness of his life. He died at Bologna on August 6, 1221.
St. Dominic's College was started in 1965 under the Catholic management of St. Dominic’s Forane Church, Kanjirapally. The College aims at making its students live its motto ‘Absorb and Radiate’. The Department of Commerce was started in 1980 with the introduction of B Com degree course. It was elevated to Postgraduate Department in 1984 and became a Research Centre in 1997. Now it is one of the prominent Commerce Departments in the M G University. There are 8 teachers, 181 U G students, 33 P G students and 7 research scholars in the Department.
